My Story

I have had a passion for flowers for as long as I can remember. As a child, I loved being outdoors and spending time in my grandparents’ gardens. I was fascinated with the National Trust gardens around, such as Hidcote and have never forgotten the first time I saw (and smelled) a Rose. I have been growing garden Roses for over two decades and now mainly for my wedding work.

Having been a teacher for many years when I left university, I never could have imagined that I would eventually turn my passion into a business. I still have to pinch myself!

In February 2022 I was offered an allotment plot on the edge of my village in Burbage, which is on the Leicestershire/Warwickshire border and I started growing cut flowers there. A year later I took on a second plot, having quickly filled every inch of space! I now grow a wide range of plants for flowers and foliage, mainly started from seed and run a range of flower experiences at the plots.

I love showing flower lovers, florists and wedding couples around the cutting garden.

Sustainability

I love growing flowers - but not to the detriment of the environment. Sustainability is at the heart of everything I do at The Cutting Garden. I avoid the use of peat, single-use plastics, pesticides and floral foam. I only use natural, plant-based feeds and recyclable packaging.

Unlike imported flowers, my blooms are not sprayed with harmful chemicals or flown in. I encourage a balanced ecosystem; my soil is teeming with life and the flowers abuzz with beneficial insects and I leave areas wild to feed and shelter them year round.

When you buy my flowers you know their true origin and that they are fresh, natural and haven’t impacted negatively on the environment.
